The stunning Zelina Vega has made a surprising admission about Andrade’s recent WWE United States Championship reign, noting that it was meant to be ended by real-life husband, Aleister Black.
Making an appearance on Lilian Garcia’s Chasing Glory Podcast, the sultry Latina discussed her client’s reign and the on-screen relationship she shares with her spouse.
First on the agenda, however, was her thoughts on real-life becoming part of storylines and her not wanting to be the focus her husband’s potential title success:
“With Andrade, Aleister was our enemy. What do they call it, sleeping with the enemy? There’s a huge conspiracy, like, ‘Oh my God, the reason Andrade lost the title is because of her.’ If only it was really like that, cause that’s actually kind of cool, but that’s not the case. I’ve seen if real life bleeds into storylines that it can be a little messy. I didn’t want it and Aleister didn’t want it either.”
Zelina, Andrade and Aleister Black go all the way back to NXT together when the latter toppled the Mexican to lift the NXT Championship at NXT TakeOver: New Orleans on April 7, 2018. But their on-screen relationship is purposely kept separate from their marriage:
“In storyline, Aleister and Zelina have nothing in common and hate each other. For people who know, it’s cool to see. There have been a few matches where Andrade and I are against Aleister and there’s been certain looks I’ve given and you can see the confusion. I like doing stuff like that. Like an Easter egg.”
Finally, the dazzling star revealed that the original plan was for Andrade to drop the WWE United States Championship to Aleister and told of why WWE never went ahead with it:
“Initially, we were supposed to drop our United States Championship to Aleister and we were going to add the element of my confusion into it. It didn’t end up happening, one got hurt and there’s another whole thing. I wanted to keep the reality of people believing that more than anything else. It’s nice to keep it just for us, but also keep the storylines fresh and believable.”
In the end, Andrade lost the championship to Apollo Crews on May 25, 2020.
Zelina Vega and Andrade have now ended their on-screen relationship with Vega heading to Friday Night SmackDown and Andrade’s future still to be decided when both return to WWE following their short breaks. Andrade is currently recovering from a minor elective procedure.
