Zelina Vega is enjoying the most high-profile run of her WWE career, but that might not have been the original plan.
After missing a chunk of 2022 due to injury, Vega returned to SmackDown on October 7th, joining forces with Legado Del Fantasma. Vega became the group’s manager and the quartet eventually joined forces with Rey Mysterio in March 2023, relaunching the LWO.
The star went on to compete in the biggest match of her career at Backlash, making an emotional return to Puerto Rico where she took on Rhea Ripley. After being greeted as a hero, Vega’s popularity continued after the event and she recently starred in the women’s Money In The Bank Ladder Match. Interestingly, it’s been revealed that this run didn’t go down quite as originally planned.
According to a new report from Fightful Select, Ripley was originally scheduled to “squash” Vega at Backlash, but the match was changed due to her popularity, something Ripley was happy to go along with. WWE sources noted that the change worked out well for everyone involved as it gave Ripley a memorable match and boosted Vega significantly moving forward.
What Inspired Zelina Vega’s Gear At Money In The Bank?
While the star has caught the eye for her popularity and in-ring performances in recent months her ring gear ensured she has been turning heads for years. Often giving a nod to her love of Anime and video games, Vega works hard to find unique ways to tie all of her passions together.
Posting on social media, Zelina Vega revealed her Money In The Bank ring gear was inspired by Frieza from Dragonball Z.
