The Young Bucks are the new AEW Tag Team Champions following a 30-minute instant classic with FTR.
In a match that had been hotly anticipated for several years from fans around the globe – as well as both teams – we saw new champions crowned after a stipulation had been set by the Young Bucks whereby they couldn’t challenge for the titles ever again if they lost the match.
The match did take a small amount of time to heat up, but once it got cooking, it was certainly on fire. Seemingly crafting a “love letter to tag team wrestling”, the bout was reminiscent of WWE’s ‘Greatest Wrestling Match Ever’ with homages being paid to the likes of the Hart Foundation, the Steiner Brothers and DIY throughout the 30-minute classic.
While Matt Jackson’s legitimate injury made news earlier in the week, all four men pushed themselves to the limit, with FTR abandoning the ‘No Flips, Just Fists’ motto they’ve lived by for so long, which would cost them the titles as Cash Wheeler attempted a springboard 450 splash, just missing and being caught with a superkick for the loss.
