XFL Duties Could Leave The Rock vs Roman Reigns In Doubt

A new report has claimed that a scheduling clash could put pay to a potential WrestleMania 39 showdown between The Rock and Roman Reigns.

While Roman Reigns is currently preparing for a huge clash with Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 38, attention is already turning to his opponent at the 2023 edition of the spectacular.

It had initially been suggested that Reigns could meet The Rock in Texas, but it later became clear that this wouldn’t be the case. Instead, it has been reported that the dream match will take place at WrestleMania 39.

However, it has now been claimed that the bout could already be in jeopardy. Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that The Rock’s involvement with the XFL, which re-launches in February 2023, could prove to be a stumbling block.

“Dwayne being all over next year promoting (the XFL), which could be interesting because next year is the WrestleMania that he was supposed to work with Roman Reigns, and that would be in April, and that’s probably gonna be the middle of the season,”

During The Rock’s last real match at WrestleMania 29 in 2013, against John Cena, he tore both his abdominal and inductor tendons from his pelvis causing work on the movie Hercules to be delayed. This came at an incredible cost to the production company.

Over the following decade it has been noted that this is the reason that the star has been hesitant to step back in the ring.

Meltzer added that any filming scheduled to take place around the time of the event, could also prevent the match from taking place.

“If he’s got any kind of an action movie deal within a couple of months [of WrestleMania], let alone, if he’s got one that takes place during that period there’s no way he would do [the match],” said Meltzer. “If it’s even like a month or two after, they wouldn’t let him because the insurance and things like that would be too high. That’s why he never did another one.”

The Rock recently appeared at Super Bowl LVI introducing the teams onto the field in typically electrifying fashion. Following the appearance, The Great One hinted that he might also be returning to WWE in the very near future.

The tease came after it was reported that WWE were working on another huge WrestleMania 38 surprise, alongside the potential of the in-ring return of Stone Cold Steve Austin.
