WWE’s AEW “War” Could Take A Nasty Turn Soon; Here’s What We Know

WWE CCO Triple H at WrestleMania 41, AEW CEO Tony Khan on Dynamite

The latest update regarding the “war” between WWE and AEW reportedly indicates that tension between the wrestling promotions could escalate.

WWE and AEW have been at odds with each other since the latter’s creation in 2019. They have shared days and dates for either weekly shows or wrestling events, signing and exchanging top talents, and even referencing each other in their shows at times. Recently, both promotions have found a new way of going against one another.

For a while now, WWE has been counterprogramming AEW pay-per-views; this is when the former would also schedule a show on the same day as the latter’s PPVs. This was seen on July 12 during All In: Texas, the same weekend as NXT Great American Bash, Goldberg’s retirement match at Saturday Night’s Main Event, and Evolution 2 occurred.

During Forbidden Door on August 24, the Stamford-based promotion decided to also schedule NXT Heatwave that same day. This will be seen again on September 20. All Elite will host All Out in Canada, while Wrestlepalooza will take place that same day in Indianapolis.

When World Wrestling Entertainment would add a show to match with All Elite Wrestling, the latter would usually move the start time, either earlier or later. From the looks of it, this move may have been the reason why the Stamford-based promotion will continue this practice.

WWE Will Reportedly Keep Counter-Programming AEW

According to Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live, his sources in WWE noted that they will continue to target with its scheduling and that they are going to “go after them and they’re gonna keep it up.”

Bryan noted that the “war” could escalate further, with World Wrestling Entertainment also moving its own shows earlier to match the start times of All Elite Wrestling. Alvarez added that WWE will “screw” Tony Khan because after knowing the All Elite President’s “gonna blink, he’s gonna move his show.”
