Following the Royal Rumble, a new report has claimed that WWE does not currently know who will clash over the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 38.
This year, the Royal Rumble saw the rivalry between Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar taken to a new level. In the opening match of the night, Reigns went to war with Seth ‘Freaking’ Rollins. The bout ended when Reigns refused to release Rollins from a Guillotine when ‘The Drip King’ reached the ropes. Although Rollins officially won by DQ, Reigns kept his title.
Later in the show, Lesnar battled the challenger for his WWE Championship, Bobby Lashley. Just when ‘The Conqueror’ seemed to have the upper hand after dropping ‘The All Mighty’ with an F5, Reigns appeared from nowhere and levelled him with a Spear.
Reigns then looked to Lesnar’s Advocate, Paul Heyman, who handed him the WWE Championship belt, allowing Reigns to use it to lay Lesnar out. While Reigns and Heyman – who is seemingly once again ‘The Head of the Table’s Special Counsel – walked up the ramp, Lashley came to and pinned Lesnar to capture the gold.
Then, in a shocking turn of events, Lesnar was revealed as the final participant in the men’s Royal Rumble match. ‘The Beast Incarnate’ stormed to the ring and made short work of the remaining competitors to stamp his ticket to the main event of WrestleMania 38.
While the events of the evening seem to have set a trajectory that will see Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar do battle once more at WrestleMania, it is less clear what will happen with the WWE Championship now held by Bobby Lashley.
On Twitter, WrestleVotes has reported that, as of writing, WWE legitimately has no idea who Lashley will face at ‘The Showcase of the Immortals’ if he is even still the champion when April comes around.
Lesnar had to be the winner here. I’m told they legitimately have no idea what the WWE Title match at Mania is going to be at this point. Avoid the ol pigeon hole.
