At WWE Crown Jewel on November 5th Roman Reigns put his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship on the line against Logan Paul.
Ahead of his date with the Tribal Chief Logan Paul had only wrestled in WWE twice, with only one of those matches being a singles bout. Despite this the YouTube star had impressed fans and industry insiders alike with his performances.
Freddie Prinze Jr. Not A Fan Of Roman Reigns Vs. Logan Paul
At the event in Saudi Arabia Logan Paul pushed Roman Reigns all of the way but was ultimately defeated. However, the star again earned plaudits for his performance which included a Frog Splash from the top rope through the announce table and the champion. Being Logan Paul, the star filmed the move on his phone.
Speaking in a new interview with Chris Van Vliet, former WWE writer Freddie Prinze Jr gave his opinion on the match. Prinze J. admitted that he didn’t watch it at the time as he avoids the Crown Jewel shows but was impressed by how well Paul can wrestle. Although he was less impressed by Paul filming the Frog Splash spot, commenting that it went against his more old-school wrestling mentality.
“Look, I get why they’re doing it, I wasn’t a big fan of it. I will say this. He did his thing, like the dude can wrestle. He’s done I think three matches now, and I finally watched the Crown Jewel match. I was so proud of the fact that I didn’t watch it because I hate Crown Jewel.
It’s just the goofiest. It’s a tricky thing. I get why they did it, right. I get why they brought Mr. T to WrestleMania. But I’m not a fan of it, like I would rather see wrestlers wrestle. I didn’t like that he videoed himself doing a Frog Splash. How serious are you, this is the old-school mentality, how serious are you about winning the WWE Championship if you’re going to hold a phone and video yourself doing a Frog Splash? It should be a singular [focus].
Again, it’s an old-school mentality, and I’m not saying it’s right. I’m just saying it’s mine. How serious are you about winning, if you don’t have a singular focus on winning. [Chris mentions Hulk Hogan flexing]. It’s not, the flex was to power him up. You know, like, show you how into it he is. Whereas this is like, ‘I’m gonna bring everyone into my social media page and get even more followers while I do this,”
During the match Logan Paul tore his MCL and is currently out of action. Despite this the star has already pitched to face John Cena at WrestleMania 39.
