This year’s WrestleMania is set to be a record-breaking show. The WWE’s biggest annual event will celebrate its 39th edition with a two-night extravaganza on April 1st and 2nd.
California is bracing itself for its first WrestleMania hosting since 2005, and the state will undoubtedly be pleased with WWE’s recent press release concerning the event.
WWE WrestleMania 39 Breaks Monster Record
In a press release sent out today, WWE announced that the upcoming show has broken an all-time gate record.
“WWE® (NYSE: WWE) today announced that WrestleMania Goes Hollywood (WrestleMania 39), which will originate from SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles across two nights, broke the company’s all-time gate record for any WrestleMania, despite having yet to announce a single match. The previous record announced was $17.3 million in 2016 at WrestleMania 32 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.”
The record gate comes on the heels of unprecedented ticket sales demand for WWE in 2022, in which it produced the highest-grossing gates of all-time for Royal Rumble, Survivor Series and Extreme Rules. Clash at the Castle in Cardiff, Wales, which marked WWE’s first major stadium show in the U.K. in 30 years, was the highest-grossing U.K. event in company history.”
No matches have been announced for the event as of yet. However, the card is expected to be formed following the 2023 Royal Rumble. The stretch between late-January and early-April, traditionally referred to as “The Road to WrestleMania,” is where rivalries are played out for their involvement on the big show.
“The Showcase of Immortals” is known for displaying the biggest matches of the year and featuring the biggest superstars. With that in mind, it’s a safe bet that names like Roman Reigns, Becky Lynch and Drew McIntyre will be part of the show.
Alongside these names, it is interesting to note that there are rumours surrounding the appearance of superstars of yesteryear. For example, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin has not ruled out a return. Alongside Austin, there are whispers that huge names like Dwayne Johnson and John Cena will also appear.
