One half of the finals in the tournament to crown new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions is set!
After Naomi and Sasha Banks walked out of the May 16th episode of Raw, they were stripped of their WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships and suspended without pay. At that time, a tournament was announced to crown new champions, but at long last the tournament began earlier this month, giving eight teams the opportunity to hold tag team gold in WWE.
While Nikkita Lyons and Zoey Stark were originally set to compete in the tournament, they were replaced at the last minute by Toxic Attraction, who scored a win over Natalya and Sonya Deville on SmackDown. However, news broke earlier today that Gigi Dolin had suffered an injury and will be medically unable to compete in the semifinals, so the four eliminated teams will participate in a “Second Chance Fatal Four Way” to earn a spot back into the tournament.
On the most recent episode of Monday Night Raw, WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus was interrupted by Bayley, Dakota Kai, and IYO SKY. Bianca Belair ended up coming out to defend Stratus, and later on would be joined by Asuka and Alexa Bliss, who were set to face Kai and SKY that evening.
Following the groups’ confrontation, the tag team match began, and while Asuka and Alexa Bliss appeared dominant at points, it was Dakota Kai and IYO SKY who scored the victory in the end. They will go on to face either Aliyah and Raquel Rodriguez or the winners of the fatal four way in the tournament final.
