WWE Veteran Criticizes John Cena Vs. Randy Orton Backlash 2025 Main Event Finish: “You’re Incompetent”

Former WWE Writer Reveals Who Took The Worst RKO Ever

A WWE veteran and former head writer was not impressed by the finish of this recent Backlash 2025 main event.

Last weekend on 10th May, John Cena and Randy Orton competed against each other for the last time ever. While the duo engaged in a lengthy, critically acclaimed, and almost 30-minute match, the finish left behind a bad taste.

Recently, appearing on the Legion Of Raw podcast, WWE veteran Vince Russo turned critical of the main-event finish. Russo explained how the conclusive moments of the bout seemed “ridiculous”.

“You ever see a GM and six of his henchmen tend to a referee in the middle of the ring during a match? Like I said, they did that. Why? Because every time Orton gave one of them an RKO, pop, pop, pop. Meanwhile, you got the guy on the outside of the ring who’s dead; nobody cares about that. You guys, man. You’re incompetent. You’re totally, totally incompetent in what you do.”

WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H Is Proud Of John Cena And Randy Orton

While Vince Russo publicly shunned the Backlash main event bout, the promotion’s chief content officer, Triple H heaped praises on the two men before expressing how proud he was of them.

“For me, I was fortunate enough to be there as they were both coming in the door, and I was able to sit and watch them do that from 2001 forward all the way to today, I’ve seen a lot of that.

I don’t know that I’ve ever seen one where I felt like, ‘Eh.’ Ever. It’s just that level of talent between the two of them. They have incredible chemistry. They know each other inside and out. When that happens, you get what you saw here tonight — 25 years later, magic.

I just watched that match — however long they went, I don’t know, that was 40 minutes or something like that — I just watched that entire thing with this huge smile on my face. So proud of both of them, of the careers they’ve created, and the stars they’ve become. Just awesome.”
