Many fans are speculating that WWE may have indicated that former Divas Champion Paige could be set for an in-ring return after the company updated her status online.
In April 2018, Paige announced that she was retiring from in-ring competition as a result of ongoing injury problems with her neck. The first-ever NXT Women’s Champion was just 25-years-old at the time.
However, since then, Edge, Bryan Danielson, Christian Cage, and even Sting, have all returned to the ring despite suffering what were believed to be career-ending injuries. Furthermore, Stone Cold Steve Austin is set to be physically involved at WrestleMania 38 after his own run was ended by a series of neck problems in 2003.
Speaking in April 2021, the star added to the speculation by saying that she would “return tomorrow” if she could get cleared.
Now WWE.com has listed Paige among their “Current Superstars” although further investigation shows that the English star is not listed as part of either the Raw, SmackDown, or NXT rosters.
Paige signed with WWE in 2011 after making her in-ring debut for her father’s promotion when she was only 13. After a stint in Florida Championship Wrestling, the young star was crowned the first-ever NXT Women’s Champion in 2013.
After defending her title against the likes of Natalya and Emma, the British star debuted on the main roster the night after WrestleMania 30. In the process, she defeated AJ Lee for the Divas Title. With the victory, Paige broke numerous records, including being the first woman to hold the NXT and Divas Titles simultaneously, the youngest Superstar to hold a WWE Women’s Championship, and the first woman to win WWE gold on debut.
Paige first underwent neck surgery in 2016, before returning to the ring in November the following year. Although the comeback turned out to be short-lived with the star wrestling her last match at a house show a month later.
