WWE UK Fans Risk £1,000 Fine Before Money in the Bank 2025

WWE Money in the Bank

WWE UK fans need to stay alert.

WWE Money in the Bank 2025 is just a few hours away, and has the fans already excited. Earlier this year, the promotion began exclusively streaming Raw on Netflix while all other weekly shows and PLEs also moved to Netflix in the International market. The new streaming move began with the Royal Rumble as the first PLE on Netflix.

Now, almost four months later, the promotion is set to host its upcoming Money in the Bank 2025 PLE from Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California. However, WWE fans in the UK now face a risk of paying a hefty fine of £1,000. In the United Kingdom, Netflix holds exclusive streaming rights to WWE programming, which is accessible at no additional charge to subscribers.

However, according to the United Kingdom laws, viewers need to maintain a valid TV licence to watch any live event at the time of its broadcast. The TV Licensing website also clarifies that the law refers to anything that is “live on streaming services”. UK fans catching the Money in the Bank PLE might need to own a TV licence or possibly face a fine of up to £1,000 plus court costs.

Earlier this year, Daniel McAfee, Head of Legal Operations at Lawhive, had claimed,

“Under UK law, any live television broadcast requires a valid TV licence, regardless of the streaming platform. We have a duty to enforce the law when there is evidence that someone has avoided paying for a TV Licence.”

The BBC has confirmed to Cord Busters that a TV Licence is required for viewing live events on Netflix.

A valid TV licence costs £174.50 per year and can be bought as a single purchase or in installments through a direct debit.
