WWE and fans around the world have paid tribute to the late, great Eddie Guerrero on what would have been his 55th birthday.
By the time of his untimely death in 2005, Eddie Guerrero was renowned as one of the best wrestlers on the planet. An accolade he had earned after performing at an incredibly high level for a number of years in promotions around the world.
His work in ECW and WCW with the likes of Rey Mysterio and Dean Malenko, Eddie Guerrero paved the way for ‘smaller’ wrestlers to become stars in their own right and helped pioneer a style of wrestling which hadn’t really been seen in the United States.
After moving to WWE in 2000, Guerrero became beloved by a whole new set of fans for his antics in the ring and his ‘Lie, Cheat, and Steal’ philosophy. To this day, the night of his World Championship win over Brock Lesnar at No Way Out in 2004 is still seen as a top moment in the company’s history.
October 9th would have marked Eddie Guerrero’s 55th birthday and the day has seen wrestlers and fans alike paying tribute to the star.
WWE itself posted that Latino Heat was a “ground-breaking” star, while Eddie’s widow, Vicki Guerrero wished him a “heavenly birthday” on Instagram.
Meanwhile, fans have been sharing their favourite moments, including the title win mentioned above, his interactions with Batista, and his amazing Frog Splash from the top of a steel cage onto JBL.
