According to POST Wrestling, WWE are ready to launch their much talked about NXT India in the New Year.
As per the report, the promotion’s latest brand will begin filming in January and take on the same format as NXT UK – which has been the successful guinea pig – allowing the company to roll the idea out into other countries.
NXT India, like NXT UK will begin as an 8-Man Tournament to crown the inaugural NXT Indian Champion before a weekly series begins recording. However, at time of writing, WWE have given no indication of when the brand will air only that it will be shown on the WWE Network as well as linear television in and across India.
If they’re working from the NXT UK model, then we could be waiting anywhere from a year to four months after a massive block of shows have been taped.
At time of writing, no names were given to star in NXT India or the inaugural tourney to crown their first champion. However, it is widely believed that Mae Young Classic competitor Kavita Devi will be the face of the women’s division and we will see the rise of those who were successful in the promotion’s tryouts in the country some time ago.
Currently, WWE have a good relationship with Sony India – who they extended their partnership with in March 2020 – who show Monday Night Raw, Friday Night SmackDown, NXT and other WWE pay-per-view events.
NXT India is just one in a long line of planned and talked about NXT brands across the world. Since the inception of NXT UK – and what was WWE United Kingdom Championship brand prior to that – there has been much talk of a NXT Germany which would be fronted by Walter and NXT Japan.
