WWE To Introduce New Championship

WWE To Introduce New Championship

A new champion will be crowned as part of WWE’s latest project.

In December 2023, fans attending SmackDown tapings witnessed a new concept before the Friday night show went live on the air. Named “WWE Speed”, the show was built around short matches as all contests had a 5-minute time limit. During the WrestleMania press conference in February 2024, Michael Cole officially announced the first details for the new WWE show, confirming that it would air in the spring and would air exclusively on social media platform X.

On March 27th, the company posted a new update via social media to confirm the rules of the matches and when the show will premiere. Presented by Corey Graves, Speed will premiere on April 3rd and will see matches contested with a 3-minute time limit. Additionally, the winner of the tournament will become the first-ever WWE Speed Champion.

At the time of writing, no additional details have been provided in regards to who will compete and how many competitors will be in the tournament.

WWE Continues To Add Programming To WrestleMania Week

Speed is the latest addition to a stacked line-up of programming in the lead-up to WrestleMania. On top of the go-home episodes of Raw and SmackDown, the company will also present the 2024 Hall of Fame Ceremony and the NXT Premium Live Event before the landmark event in Philadelphia on April 6th and 7th. Additionally, a new Bray Wyatt documentary will air on April 1st, documenting the life and career of the late former World Champion.
