The Rock returned to WWE to set up the biggest tag team match in WrestleMania history, but some of the choice language in his promos has reportedly irritated his peers.
After turning heel and siding with Roman Reigns in a segment with Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins at the WrestleMania XL Kick Off Press Conference in Las Vegas, The Great One cut an expletive ridden promo to sow the seeds for the epic tag team clash.
In the weeks that followed The People’s Champ channelled his former Attitude-Era persona wearing his expensive shirts, shades and of course cutting scathing promos on the live crowds as well as his opponents. Now, it is being reported that his use of profanity and sexual innuendos has resulted in talent calling out double standards when it comes to the Brahma Bull.
According to SE Scoops company executives Nick Khan, Paul Levesque, and Dan Ventrelle sent out an internal memo to talent reiterating the need to adhere to PG Guidelines on TV and social media. But to the alleged ire of talent, those guidelines don’t relate to the returning movie star.
The outlet also states that some backstage are unhappy with his preferential treatment and were told that the “thinking” is:
“even if he is the big movie star, shouldn’t everyone play by the same rules? So he can curse and use that to get over, but everyone else is handcuffed?”
Why does The Rock get special treatment?
Not only is he one of the biggest wrestling stars in the world, he is also one of the biggest movie stars and therefore has a certain amount of sway within the entertainment industry.
Earlier this year, following the merger of WWE and UFC under the TKO banner, it was announced that he was a member of the TKO Board of Directors and gained full ownership of his name.
According to a separate report, insight has been provided in regards to how FOX prepares for The Rock’s promos.
On a recent episode of Raw, Cody Rhodes was also one to break the rules.
