WWE stars are hoping Vince McMahon remains in the background.
Since forcing his way back onto WWE’s Board of Directors in January 2023, McMahon’s influence over creative has only increased. Although it was initially denied that he was involved at all, it later became clear some of his ideas were making it to television.
McMahon himself confirmed following WrestleMania that he was taking an interest. Since then, McMahon has rarely attended tapings in person, but he often makes suggestions and tweaks to the show remotely.
Following WWE’s merger with UFC, there has been a great deal of speculation about what that might mean for the day-to-day running of the company, and more specifically, McMahon’s role. Endeavor boss Ari Emanuel has made no secret of how important he believes McMahon to be.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, although talent is hoping McMahon steps away from creative altogether, the situation is likely to remain the same as it has for much of 2023.
“Talent noted to us that Levesque had been in charge of creative and they hoped with the new company that Vince would stay out of it. Basically they were told it was going to be Levesque in charge of creative with the new company the and now Vince was back. The reality is that Levesque will be head of creative but Vince will remain with the final power.”
Vince McMahon Made Changes To WWE Raw
In more recent weeks McMahon has stepped away from his duties with WWE after undergoing serious back surgery. However, the recovery hasn’t kept him down for long.
Following the September 11th episode of Raw, it was reported that Vince McMahon was back ringing the changes, albeit alongside Triple H. Although the exact changes McMahon made were unknown, they were said to be “significant.”
