In a significant announcement for WrestleMania 40, the general managers of WWE Raw and SmackDown unveiled plans for a high-stakes six-pack tag team ladder match at the upcoming event in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The pre-taped backstage segment on Raw featured Adam Pearce and SmackDown’s Nick Aldis, who declared that the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions, Finn Balor and Damian Priest of Judgment Day, will defend their titles against five other teams in a thrilling showdown at the “Showcase of the Immortals.”
The participating teams for this anticipated match will be determined through qualifying matches on both Raw and SmackDown in the upcoming weeks. While specific participants were not immediately revealed, a video showcased several teams, including Legado del Fantasma, The New Day, DIY, the Creed Brothers, the Awesome Truth, Indus Sher, Pretty Deadly, Alpha Academy, LWO, the Authors of Pain, New Catch Republic, and the Street Profits.
Following the announcement, Priest and Balor expressed their discontent backstage, with Priest confronting Pearce about the match’s conception. Priest emphasised their track record and questioned the origins of the match idea. Pearce attributed the idea to a conversation with The Miz and R-Truth, further fuelling Priest’s frustration and leading to a subsequent match between the Money In The Bank briefcase holder and Truth later in the evening.
What Did Damian Priest Say About The Importance Of The WWE Tag Team Titles?
Damian Priest said he is proud of how the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship has been taken more seriously in recent years. Priest said that in times past the titles were not considered to be very important but that his and Finn Balor’s dominant reign as Champions, coupled with the titles being defended in one of the main events of WrestleMania 39 has helped increase the title’s reputation.
