WWE Tag Team Axed Due To Adult Film Connection

WWE Raw SmackDown Tag Team Championship Belts

A WWE tag team has been forced to change their name due to an association with an adult website.

Sheamus and Drew McIntyre have been teaming together for a number of weeks. As Sheamus frequently refers to his matches as “bangers” the group made the decision to call themselves “The Banger Bros.”

WWE Tag Team Name Dropped

As reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the company have made the decision to drop the name given to the team of the former WWE Champions. The reason behind this is that those within the organisation have “found out” that the name sounds similar to a website associated with adult material.

The first time that the WWE Universe were made aware of the team name “The Banger Bros” was at the start of January 2023. Michael Cole would refer to Sheamus and McIntyre by this name during the January 6th broadcast.

While the name has been dropped, this has not affected the winning momentum of Sheamus and McIntyre. The long time friends most recently competed in the SmackDown Tag Team Title Tournament, where they advanced to the semi-final by defeating The Viking Raiders in the opening round.

The next round is due to take place on the January 27th episode of SmackDown, where the team now formerly known as The Banger Bros will face Hit Row in the next round. If Sheamus and McIntyre are victorious, they will take on the winner of semi-final 2, which will see Imperium face Legado Del Fantasma.

Both Sheamus and Drew McIntyre may have the goal in mind of becoming double champions within the company. Along with being teammates in the tournament to challenge for the tag team championships, both men are official entrants in the 2023 Royal Rumble. With The Celtic Warrior winning the rumble match in 2012 and The Scottish Warrior winning the match in 2020, both men are hoping to join the select few that have won multiple rumble matches.
