This year, WWE made history with Survivor Series as they held two WarGames matches at the event for the first time. Following the event, Triple H revealed it had also set a new record for the company.
The WarGames bouts delivered on their promise. The women’s edition opened the show and featured the in-ring return of Becky Lynch, who brought the chaotic bout to an end by leaping off the cage to drive both Dakota Kai and IYO SKY through a table below.
The men’s bout saw The Bloodline take on The Brawling Brutes, Drew McIntyre, and Kevin Owens. The story of the match revolved around whether Roman Reigns’ team could trust Sami Zayn. In the end, however, Zayn more than proved himself by taking out his old friend Owens to seal the victory for his newfound family.
Survivor Series 2022 sets new record
At the post-Survivor Series press conference, Triple H revealed that the event had been a record-breaker. He noted that the show was a complete sell-out with more than 15,600 fans had packed out the TD Garden in Boston to the point where there was no way to fit any more into the building.
Triple H went on to say it was also the biggest gate WWE had ever had in Boston and the highest-grossing Survivor Series of all time as well as the most-viewed. He also noted he thinks WarGames will become a staple of the event going forward.
Elsewhere in the press conference, Becky Lynch described her experience of returning to the ring after a four-month absence to take part in a WarGames match by paraphrasing Eminem.
The women’s bout was also singled out for praise on social media by WWE Hall of Famer Lita, who described it as “incredible” before thanking all of the participants for their efforts.
