Following the shock announcement of her imminent WWE departure, numerous WWE Superstars have paid tribute to Paige before she heads off for pastures new.
A heartfelt post made on Twitter saw Paige announce the end of her eleven-year WWE journey. The former Divas Champion revealed she’d be departing the company come 7 July, having first signed with the promotion in late-2011.
Needless to say, the news shocked many within the wrestling world. Although she hasn’t wrestled since December 2017, ‘The Anti-Diva’ had a helping hand in changing the perception of women’s wrestling after participating in the match that sparked the Women’s Revolution in WWE.
Several WWE Superstars have referred to Paige as “mom” on Twitter, including her old Absolution teammates Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose. Others have sent on their love and respect to the soon-to-be-former WWE personality, such as Cora Jade and Nikki A.S.H.
Queen Zelina, meanwhile, tweeted a longer message of support to Paige in the next step of her journey, admitting that Paige’s story helped her begin her own WWE career:
“Truly a legendary talent and person. I don’t think she’ll ever know the incredible impact that she’s had on people like me and so many others. My initial opportunity to work in a WWE ring was due to HER story. Honoured to call her a friend. This will ALWAYS be.. her house. ilysm.”
Paige is a former two-time WWE Divas Champion and one-time – and inaugural – NXT Women’s Champion. She retired from in-ring activity in April 2018 after suffering a career-ending injury the previous December, though she’s remained with the company in roles including SmackDown’s General Manager.
The real-life Saraya-Jade Bevis will officially become a free agent in 26 days, though her next step remains unclear. In her Twitter post, Paige acknowledged the possibility of an in-ring return, though she didn’t officially confirm it as such.
