An energy drink endorsed by YouTube stars Logan Paul and KSI is under fire for its high levels of caffeine and potential health risks.
Logan Paul, best known for his successful YouTube channel and crossover into professional boxing, made his WWE debut back in 2021 and is currently one of the lead spokesmen for the immensely popular PRIME energy drink.
PRIME, an energy drink endorsed by YouTube stars Logan Paul and KSI, while advertising itself as zero sugar and vegan friendly, contains 200 milligrams of caffeine per 12 ounces, equivalent to about six cans of Coca-Cola or two Red Bulls.
This has led to bans on the drink in some schools in the US, UK, and Australia due to concerns about its impact on children’s health.
The allegations have not seemed to have put a dampener on Paul’s spirit, as he recently announced his engagement to Nina Agdal, a Danish model on Sunday.
Logan Paul is scheduled to return to Raw on July 10th for an encounter with his newest rival Ricochet.
Logan Paul’s PRIME Faces Scrutiny Over Misleading Marketing
As reported by the Associated Press, the company claims that the drink is not recommended for children under 18 and is labelled as such, lawmakers argue that the marketing is misleading and could lead parents to unknowingly purchase the drink for their children.
Senator Charles Schumer has called on the Food and Drug Administration to investigate the marketing, ingredients, and caffeine content of PRIME.
The popularity of the drink among children and teens, coupled with its bright colours, sweet flavours, and celebrity endorsements, has raised concerns about the potential health risks associated with consuming high levels of caffeine at a young age.
Schumer’s call for an investigation highlights the need for clearer labelling and marketing practices to protect children from the potential dangers of highly caffeinated energy drinks.
Following the claims outlined above, a representative from PRIME gave the following statement:
“PRIME has two drinks on the market, PRIME Hydration and PRIME Energy. It is very important to make the distinction between the two products because they are vastly different. We started PRIME last year with the launch of Hydration, a healthier sports drink alternative that comes in a bottle.
PRIME Energy, sold in a can, dropped in 2023 and contains a comparable amount of caffeine to other top selling energy drinks, all falling within the legal limit of the countries it’s sold in. It complied with all FDA guidelines before hitting the market and states clearly on packaging, as well as in marketing materials, that it is an energy drink and is not made for anyone under the age of 18.As a brand, our top priority is consumer safety, so we welcome discussions with the FDA or any other organization regarding suggested industry changes they feel are necessary in order to protect consumers.”
