WWE SummerSlam Returning To Michigan For The First Time Since 1993
The last time that WWE SummerSlam headed to Michigan the show was headlined by the somewhat infamous clash between Lex Luger and WWF Champion Yokozuna. The rivalry between the pair began a month before as Luger body-slammed Yokozuna on the USS Intrepid. At SummerSlam, Luger won via count out, which meant that his giant rival retained the title.
The show went off the air with the bizarre scene of Luger celebrating with a number of babyface stars as ticker tape fell from the ceiling, even though he wasn’t the champion.
SummerSlam 2022 took place in Nashville, Tennessee, and was headlined by the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship Last Man Standing Match between Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar. Despite Lesnar tipping the ring over with a tractor, it was Reigns who retained the gold.
