WWE Reportedly Make “Strong Offer” To Johnny Gargano To Stay

Johnny Gargano

WWE is reportedly making a major play to keep former NXT Champion Johnny Gargano with the star’s contract with the company expiring very soon.

Contract issues within WWE have made major headlines this year with several rounds of mass releases made along with several stars whose deals have expired and they have moved onto pastures new.

WWE was reportedly caught on the hop in the summer when Adam Cole’s contract reportedly expired in July. The Undisputed Era star signed a short-term extension that allowed him to compete through to NXT TakeOver: 36 where he lost to Kyle O’Reilly. Following that bout, Cole went on to reunite with The Elite when he joined AEW.

Bryan Danielson competed in his last WWE match on the 30th of April edition of SmackDown in a losing effort against WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns. It transpired afterwards that Danielson’s WWE contract also expired that day with the former WWE Champion eventually becoming All Elite as well.

Now a new report from Dave Meltzer in his Wrestling Observer Newsletter says that WWE is pushing hard to retain the services of Johnny Gargano with his contract seemingly expiring at the beginning of December:

“Johnny Gargano has not signed a new contract, but WWE is pushing very hard for him to do so and evidently made a very strong offer for him to stay here for a long time. His deal is up 12/3.”

34-year-old Gargano last competed on WWE television on NXT 2.0 on the 2nd of November where he and Dexter Lumis lost to Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams.
