WWE Reportedly Wants Steve Austin To Compete At WrestleMania

Steve Austin

WWE is reportedly interested in Stone Cold Steve Austin returning to the ring for the first time in 19 years!

With WrestleMania taking place in Texas, it’s no surprise that Stone Cold Steve Austin would appear in some capacity. However, a new report claims that the company doesn’t only want Austin to appear, but also to potentially return to in-ring action on the Grandest Stage of them All.

According to a report from Fightful Select, WWE has made a “significant overture” to draw Austin out of retirement. The Texas Rattlesnake has not competed since his retirement at WrestleMania 19, so if he were to return to action, it would be his first time competing in 19 years.

The report states that WWE have not given any concrete information when asked about these plans, and sources have had a range of responses, with some being coy and some saying they assume the match will happen. Fightful has been told that at the very least, Austin is expected to be involved in a physical role.

While Fightful has not been told of a specific opponent in mind for the proposed match, many on the roster believed that Kevin Owens was being set up for this role based on his recent promos about wanting to wrestle in Texas. Last week’s episode of Monday Night Raw saw Kevin Owens saying how much he loves Texas and wants to wrestle in Dallas, but this week’s episode revealed that Kevin had been lying and can’t stand the state.

A tweet from Wrestling Observer’s Bryan Alvarez confirmed that there have been talks in the company of Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Kevin Owens taking place at WrestleMania.

Adding fuel to the speculation of Austin’s involvement, the WWE on BT Sport Twitter account tweeted a gif of Stone Cold saying his trademark “What?” catchphrase.

Steve Austin joined the WWF in 1995, initially being brought in as The Ringmaster by Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase. However, this gimmick was short-lived, and after winning King of the Ring in 1996, Stone Cold Steve Austin was born. He would go on to become one of the biggest stars in wrestling history, winning the Royal Rumble three times and becoming a six time WWF Champion. His on-screen feud with Vince McMahon is one of the most iconic rivalries in the history of the company.
