WWE Stars “Unhappy” With NXT Battleground Setup

A number of WWE stars found the NXT Battleground venue to be less than ideal.

The June 9th Premium Live Event took place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas for the first time ever and drew criticism from fans as soon as the venue was announced earlier in the year. With the lack of seating and the venue not designed to host a major wrestling event, many remained sceptical about how the show would come across.

During the show itself, announcer Vic Joseph stated on numerous occasions that the announce table was a lot closer to the ring than it usually is and the ringside area was also noticeably reduced. While the show was not directly affected by the smaller area to work with, wrestlers have reportedly let their views be known on the matter.

While thankfully nothing came of it, I’m told a handful of Superstars were unhappy with the floor spacing around the ring last night at the UFC Apex for Battleground. It was noticeably tighter than at standard WWE/NXT events.

What Happened At WWE NXT Battleground?

Utilising outside stars from UFC, TNA and pop culture, the PLE was hosted by Hip Hop star Sexyy Red, who made multiple appearances throughout the night. The opening match of the show saw Kelani Jordan triumph as she became the first-ever Women’s North American Champion in a six-woman ladder match.

Also on the show, Trick Williams defended the NXT Championship against Ethan Page in Page’s debut match and Roxanne Perez defended the Women’s Championship against TNA Knockouts Champion Jordynne Grace. After the show, Jordynne Grace detailed a gruesome injury that occurred in the match,
