A new report has suggested that while many in WWE are optimistic following Vince McMahon’s retirement, some are nervous about keeping their spot.
Triple H’s appointment as Head of WWE Creative has largely been viewed as a positive step forward by fans and talent alike. While fans have toasted the success of SummerSlam and recent editions of Raw and SmackDown those within the company are also said to be facing the future with “renewed optimism.”
Furthermore, it has been reported that WWE Superstars will be given more creative freedom within matches and promos. A recent match between Sheamus and Drew McIntyre on SmackDown appears to have been the turning point, with much of the bout being called in the ring.
However, there also seems to be a different side to this coin.
A new report in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter from Dave Meltzer claims that while many stars feel positive about recent changes, others are nervous about their position on the card. Although the mood is mostly positive, Meltzer adds that there is some paranoia among others who are unsure whether they will retain their position under the new regime.
“Regarding the new regime, we’re told that it’s a positive and fresh vibe but some talent is nervous whether they will keep or lose their position. But overall the feeling is more excitement and more positive about the future. Paul Levesque was described as coming across caring about talent. Others noted a wait-and-see attitude and there is also some paranoia among some described to us from those who are not sure if their spots will be as good under the new regime. But it is mostly positive.”
The report also suggests that “wrestler” and “wrestling” are no longer considered to be “dirty words” which is also being viewed as a positive.
