Longtime WWE personnel are rumoured to be despondent following news of Vince McMahon’s retirement, being frustrated that he’d left despite it being confirmed that he wasn’t going anywhere.
Several veteran WWE Superstars are said to have been “dejected” by the shock announcement of Vince McMahon retiring from WWE, per Fightful Select.
The report indicates that their reason for feeling “off-put” by the sudden departure was due to a talent meeting held prior to Money in the Bank. Taking place just weeks before Vince’s decision to retire was made public, talent was repeatedly told that there would be no changes to the current status of WWE management.
Although no names were specifically revealed, the report states that it was mainly “multiple top stars” and “plenty of longtime talent” that felt disheartened. One such talent noted that it “shouldn’t have taken a scandal for a shakeup”, with Kevin Dunn now the next expected to leave.
At 77, time for me to retire.
Thank you, WWE Universe.
Then. Now. Forever. Together. #WWE#thankful— Vince McMahon (@VinceMcMahon) July 22, 2022
Vince McMahon tweeted local time on the afternoon on Friday, 22 July that, as he approaches 77-years-old, it was time for him to retire. A subsequent WWE Corporate press release revealed Stephanie McMahon as the new full-time Chairwoman, while she and Nick Khan will be co-CEOs moving forward.
The ex-Chairman took a step back from his WWE duties, at least to the public’s knowledge, in June following news breaking of an investigation into allegations of misconduct and exchanges of “hush money” worth millions of dollars.
