Two WWE stars have looked back on a major match that never came to be, adding that it nearly took place more than a decade prior.
After competing all over the world, Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley, known collectively as Motor City Machine Guns, are now a part of the WWE roster and have a long list of first-time-ever dream matches at their disposal. Although Sabin and Shelley had a critically acclaimed TLC match against DIY and The Street Profits, one team that was in the first-ever TLC match has alluded them throughout their careers.
In a stat that may surprise some fans, Motor City Machine Guns have never faced Matt and Jeff Hardy. While many fans would love to see the match happen, the former Tag Team Champions noted that it recently came very close.
Speaking with Alistair McGeorge of Metro, Sabin and Shelley spoke about how the match came close to happening in TNA in 2011, but plans changed:
Chris Sabin: “Sounds like a dream match.”
Alex Shelley: “It was scheduled once. Maybe 2011, there was a UK tour TNA had booked that match on in particular. And I can’t remember where it was gonna be. It was gonna be somewhere in England.”
“And something happened, I can’t remember exactly what, but it never came to fruition. So we’ve somehow managed to evade the Hardy Boyz our entire career, and it’s probably time that we get that match.”
Now that WWE and TNA have an ongoing relationship, the dream match could still be a possibility.
Major Update On WWE 2K25
The Motor City Machine Guns have officially made their debut in the WWE videogame world as they are 2 wrestlers who are part of the New Wave DLC that was released on May 14th. Unfortunately for WWE 2K25 players, one announcement was postponed.
