Shawn Michaels allegedly berated a former WWE name behind the scenes.
Shawn Michaels is arguably one of the best and most well-known wrestlers in history. Though he is more well-known for his time as a singles star, he also has his fair share of iconic tag team runs. In his early WWE run, he teamed up with Marty Jannetty for Midnight Rockers or simply, Rockers. He was also a member of nWo and the most iconic, as a member of D-Generation X with Triple H.
Due to his eventful career, whether as a solo star or in a tag team, many may have forgotten that he also used to team up with Maven in 2003, though they only had a few matches on RAW. Still, their partnership is memorable for Maven years later. However, it’s not linked to having positive memories.
Shawn Michaels Apparently Claimed That Maven Tried To Copy The Rock
In a recent episode of Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Maven opened up about his relationship with Shawn Michaels. The former noted that he was never going to be on The Heartbreak Kid’s level and would frequently ask his former partner for advice and tips during their time as a team.
“I don’t know if it was an issue. As far as obviously, I was never going to be on Shawn’s level. You’re Shawn freaking Michaels. But every time I would go out and do anything, and mostly it was when he and I were tagging together, we would get backstage and obviously, if I’m doing a philosophy seminar and I got Aristotle beside me, I’m gonna want to ask him afterwards, did I get anything wrong? Tell me. How can I be better?'”
Maven shared that after asking Shawn Michaels for advice, the latter would berate him backstage and even say his former partner was copying The Rock. The former Hardcore Champion defended himself by saying that if he did, it was only subconsciously.
So I’m like that with Shawn, and he would berate me backstage, ‘Man, you can’t be like The Rock. Everything you try to do looks like you’re trying to be like The Rock.’ And if it was, then it was subconscious. I think it’s we idolize people, so we then emulate people. I wouldn’t mean him to, but yeah, he shook my hand because he had to, not because he wanted to.”
