It is widely accepted that Ric Flair has won more World Championships than anyone else in professional wrestling.
While the exact number of title reigns Flair enjoyed is still hotly debated to this day, WWE set the figure at an impressive 16. Although a number of stars have got close, and John Cena has even equalled the landmark, it is yet to be surpassed. However, one of WWE’s biggest names have set themselves a target of doing just that.
WWE Star Wants To Surpass Ric Flair
Following her return to action on the December 30th episode of SmackDown, Charlotte Flair sat down with WWE’s The Bump. On SmackDown, Flair defeated Ronda Rousey in under a minute to claim the SmackDown Women’s Championship. Crucially, this was her 14th Women’s Championship on the main roster.
Flair explained that the win made her reassess her father’s record, and she now wants to beat it.
“Before I went away for eight months, I always said that I don’t really think about the number and I never really cared about surpassing the number, but here I am now as a 14-time Women’s Champion, and I’m like, ‘Yeah, I wanna pass it.’ I don’t know when, I don’t know how, I mean, I know how I’m going to do it, but I think I definitely want to surpass the number now.”
Ric Flair has previously stated that he believes Randy Orton will be the man to break his record. In making his predication Flair said that his ‘real’ number of World Championships is 21.
Charlotte Flair was most recently in action on the January 6th episode of SmackDown. The new champion came to the ring to discuss her recent win before being interrupted by Sonya Deville which set up a match. Despite a spirited effort from Deville, Flair scored the win.
