WWE Star Says Match With Brock Lesnar “Has To Happen”

Brock Lesnar

While Brock Lesnar has been an unstoppable force on the WWE roster since returning from his UFC career over a decade ago, there is another dominant star he has yet to take on.

That man is Gunther. The Ring General has been on a tear since debuting on the SmackDown roster in April 2022. Only weeks after his first appearance on the blue brand, he defeated Ricochet to become the Intercontinental Champion.

Since that victory, he has taken on all-comers in defence of his title, seeing off the likes of Shinsuke Nakamura and Braun Strowman as well as having wild brawls against The Celtic Warrior, Sheamus.

Many people see a clash between Gunther and Brock Lesnar as a dream match, and it could well happen if the Imperium leader gets his way.

Gunther thinks a match against Brock Lesnar has to happen

At the 2023 Royal Rumble, Lesnar and Gunther had a brief encounter before being interrupted by Bobby Lashley. Speaking on The Ringer Wrestling Show, the Austrian revealed that he thinks a match between them needs to happen.

“Brock is the one that has to happen at some point. I think I made him my personal biggest obstacle. The [Royal Rumble] was literally the first time I met him. [It was] brief, but that moment that we had in the Rumble was great because that was all I needed out of it. It was basically like a real-life confirmation that the audience is up for that. They want to see it.”

The Intercontinental Champions went on to say he has had his sights on Lesnar ever since The Beast Incarnate since he debuted in the company.

“When I watched him when he started in WWE, he was always the most impressive guy to me. Absolute beast. I saw his stuff in Japan and UFC, then he came back and he’s been on top since then. One of the best wrestlers to ever do it in my mind. For that reason, I want to be able to prove myself against him.”

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the two will meet anytime soon as Lesnar has his hands full with Omos at WrestleMania 39.

Meanwhile, it has been announced that Gunther will defend his title at the event. His opponent will be the winner of a Fatal Five-Way Match which will take place on the March 10th edition of SmackDown.
