A WWE superstar has returned to NXT, unveiling a brand new look with a gimmick change on this weekend’s NXT Live shows.
Following Apollo Crews’ move back to NXT on June 7th, Fightful confirmed that Commander Azeez had also returned to the rainbow coloured brand and would receive a gimmick overhaul. Azeez accompanied Cora Jade to the ring during an NXT Live show in what looks to be a bodyguard role. The new pairing would take on the team of Ivy Nile & Sanga in a losing effort.
As part of his new look, Azeez now sports a different hairstyle, a beard and his ring gear is completely black, matching Jade’s look after her heel turn from two weeks ago.
Azeez has been part of WWE since 2016 where he worked numerous NXT Live shows, but never made an official on-screen appearance on the then black and gold brand.
Azeez was a surprise entrant in 2018’s Great Royal Rumble match and a regular fighter on Shane McMahon’s RAW Underground in 2020 before being knocked down by Braun Strowman on both occasions.
Azeez joined forces with Apollo Crews at WrestleMania 37, helping the ‘Nigerian Prince’ win his first and only Intercontinental championship from Big E. He remained as his protector for the entirety of his run on SmackDown.
Azeez’ hadn’t competed in the ring since the May 23rd edition of Main Event where he defeated Akira Tozawa.
