Former WWE Star Potentially Set For Return After New Trademark Filing

Matt Cardona was released by WWE back in April 2020 but it appears that he could be set to re-sign with the company.

Since leaving WWE, Cardona established himself as a high-profile figure on the independent scene and appeared for the likes of IMPACT Wrestling, GCW, the NWA and very briefly AEW. The former tag team star has also performed regularly alongside his wife and fellow ex-WWE Superstar Chelsea Green.

It is worth noting that it was reported on January 9th that Green has re-signed with the company and is awaiting creative for her return.

Matt Cardona Seemingly Heading Back To WWE

A new report from PWInsider has highlighted that Matt Cardona has filed a trademark for the name “Zack Ryder” which is the name he used while with WWE.

The trademark filing was for:

-Bandanas; Hats; Shirts; Socks; Shirts and short-sleeved shirts; Sweatshirts; Hooded sweatshirts

-Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibits and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer; Entertainment services, namely, live appearances by a a professional wrestler and sports entertainer; Entertainment services, namely, personal appearances by a professional wrestler and sports entertainment personality; Entertainment services, namely, televised appearances by a professional wrestling and sports entertainment personality; Organization, arranging and conducting of sumo wrestling competitions; Providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; Providing online interviews featuring a professional wrestling and sports entertainment personality in the field of professional wrestling, sports entertainment, and toys and collectibles for entertainment purpose

Matt Cardona wrestled his first WWE match in 2005 before signing a developmental contract with the company a year later. During this period he wrestled alongside friend and tag team partner Brian Myers who eventually became Curt Hawkins. The pair were promoted to the main roster in 2007 going on to win tag team gold on two occasions. As a singles competitor Cardona also won the Intercontinental, and United States Titles.
