WWE made a last-minute change to WrestleMania 40 on SmackDown.
In recent weeks, Dominik Mysterio has rekindled his bitter rivalry with his father, Rey Mysterio. Dirty Dom has inserted himself into the feud between Rey’s LWO and Santos Escobar’s Legado Del Fantasma. On the March 22nd edition of SmackDown, Rey Mysterio was defeated by Escobar with some help from Dominik.
The following week, Rey challenged his son and Escobar to a tag team match at WrestleMania 40 where he would team up with LWO ally Dragon Lee. However, things changed on April 5th when Lee was attacked by an unknown assailant backstage and doctors ruled him out of the bout. While fellow LWO member Carlito claimed Escobar was behind the assault, it looked more likely to have been Carlito himself, with fans noticing he appears jealous of Mysterio choosing Lee over him.

Later in the night, Elektra Lopez, accompanied by Escobar, Dominik, and Andrade El Idolo, faced Zelina Vega, who had Rey Mysterio in her corner. After Lopez picked up the win, Dominik and Escobar launched an assault on Rey, but Andrade turned on them to help the elder Mysterio.
After seeing them off, Andrade shook hands with Rey, making it clear he would replace Dragon Lee at WrestleMania.

Despite the two warring onscreen, Rey Mysterio has opened up on his pride for how far Dominik Mysterio has come in WWE, saying he is “blown away” by the progress he’s made in only a few years.
