Corey Graves was never informed of the endgame of his involvement in the storyline of Kurt Angle’s illegitimate son.
As seen in 2017, Graves first broke the news to the then-Raw General Manager that someone was aware of the news, showing Angle a hateful message that described him as “A disgrace and an embarrassment to the WWE.” Graves informed Angle that it was serious and he came about the information as people tell him things. Ironically at that time, no one had told the Raw announcer anything regarding the next steps.
While appearing on The Kurt Angle Show, Graves confessed that at that time, he had no idea what the next stage of the storyline entailed and couldn’t if he was offered seven figures:
“Kurt, if you handed me a million dollars right now, I wouldn’t be able to tell you what the hell the information ever was,”
Continuing to look back on the events that took place, Graves revealed that he never was told about future plans ahead of time but was more than happy to work with the Olympic Gold Medalist:
“They never told me. I don’t know what the payoff was ever going to be. I remember asking at the time, because it felt really random, and they said…Jason Jordan and I got hired at the same time. I took my medical exams in Pittsburgh, that’s when I met him, we were at UPMC for our pre-WWE medical screens and we’ve been fast friends ever since.
I think that was sort of the reasoning behind it. I just remember being like, I don’t know what this means, I don’t know where it’s going, but I get to work with my friend and Kurt Angle, this is going to be awesome, I don’t care, but I have no idea what the plan was. No clue.”
How Did The Kurt Angle Storyline End?
On July 17, 2017, the former World Champion revealed his secret to the world that his illegitimate son was Raw star Jason Jordan. The former Tag Team Champion was aligned closely with Angle for a number of months and was set to team with the Hall of Famer at Survivor Series. However, Jordan was injured at the time of the event and was replaced on Team Raw by Triple H.
In December of that year, Jordan was paired with Seth Rollins as Dean Ambrose was injured. Rollins and Jordan would go on to win the Tag Team Championships on Christmas Day from The Bar before losing the titles back to Sheamus and Cesaro at the 2018 Royal Rumble.
Jason Jordan was forced to retire from in-ring competition following the title loss at the Rumble due to neck injuries. Jordan now works as a producer.
In 2018 following the conclusion of the illegitimate son storyline, Angle teamed with Ronda Rousey to defeat Triple H and Stephanie McMahon in Rousey’s debut match.
During the same episode, WWE announcer Corey Graves recalled how he had issues with a major structural change.
