John Cena spent more than a decade on top of the WWE, carving his name as one of the most recognizable stars in the industry. Before making his way to Hollywood, Cena became a household name in professional wrestling, preaching the virtues of hustle, loyalty, and respect.
Current WWE star Johnny Gargano has high praise for Cena, not only because of his in-ring and on-screen achievements, but also how the megastar treated him backstage prior to his making his way to becoming a Monday Night Raw mainstay.
Speaking in a new interview with Catch Club, Gargano opened up about working as an extra before being signed with WWE and coming face to face with the 16-time World Champion backstage in a heartwarming moment where Cena had some inspirational words for the young star.
“After the match was over, I walked out and I was standing in the hallway, and someone came up to me and put their hand around me, I looked, and it was John Cena. And he said ‘I just want to say that was amazing. Keep doing your thing, man. You belong here. You deserve to be here one day, and you will be one day. Just keep working. This was one of the best matches I’ve seen in a long time.’ And put that in perspective, he’s John Cena, and he came up to an extra. He had no reason to do that.”
John Cena Will Compete At WrestleMania 39
Ahead of WrestleMania 39, it was heavily rumored that Cena would be headed for a confrontation with United States Champion Austin Theory.
Sure enough, when he made his return to the company on the March 6th episode of Monday Night Raw, Cena was confronted by Theory, who demanded a match on the Grandest Stage of Them All. Cena initially refused, saying that Theory wasn’t ready for such a big challenge, but eventually he accepted and plans to teach the brash young star a lesson.
Cena last competed on the December 30th episode of SmackDown, where he teamed with Kevin Owens to defeat the team of Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn.
