WWE Star R-Truth Recounts Hilarious Story Of Seeking John Cena's Blessing To Honour His

A WWE star has recounted asking for John Cena’s blessing so that they could pay homage to their childhood hero.

As Cena made his WWE main roster debut back in 2002, many of the stars of today grew up watching the 16-time World Champion and some may have been inspired by Cena to begin their own wrestling journey. However, regarding R-Truth, the veteran took his Cena fandom to a whole new level.

Starting out as one of his legendary one-liners, Truth stated that Cena was his childhood hero even though he is 5 years older than the Hollywood star. As the line got over with the fans, the joke continued and commentary still references the joke to this day.

Taking things one step further, Truth donned the jorts for his matches and even busted out the signature moves such as the Five Knuckle Shuffle and Attitude Adjustment to pick up the victory.

Speaking with Chris Van Vliet about the joke, Truth admitted that he was able to get Cena to break with the line and is not going to be the one to bring the gag to an abrupt end:

“Oh man, I broke him too with that one. That was good, man. And they’re still running with it. I love it, man. I’m not going to burst nobody’s bubble. I’m not a bubble buster. I love it. He is my childhood hero. I would be legs crossed watching him every Saturday morning.”

When asked about the origin of the line, Truth stated that he did text Cena to make sure that the former World Champion would be ok with the idea, to which Cena was more than happy to oblige:

“No, they actually had it written out and I was like, oh this is funny! But I did text John and asked about dressing like him. I got the hahaha laughing emoji, he said I think it’s great. Run with it. So I become my childhood hero with his blessing.”

“Everything, even wearing shorts. He said, ‘Truth you don’t have to ask me to wear shorts in the ring.’ I said, ‘Man, but I want to. I want to be you. I want to do everything you do, walk, talk. How do you hold your head to the side? I want to do everything. I want to be you.’ He said, ‘Run with it, man.’ Yeah, he’s one of the greatest.”

Also in the interview, R-Truth spoke about the likelihood of turning heel one more time.
