A rising star in WWE has revealed that they owe a lot to Becky Lynch.
Beginning her career in Dublin, Ireland, Lynch eventually signed with WWE and went on to become arguably one of if not the most successful Irish wrestlers of all time.
Former Dublin native and Fight Factory student Lyra Valkyria is very aware of the path that Lynch forged on her road to success and credits The Man as the main reason that she also decided to follow her dreams of becoming a professional wrestler.
Speaking with TalkSport, the former NXT Women’s Champion detailed Lynch’s influence and how she saw The Man’s infamous NXT debut differently:
“She’s been massively influential to me. She was the reason I started. Just seeing her doing her Irish dancing that she’s now very vocally very ashamed of! Honestly, seeing her do that made me realise: ‘Irish person, oh my God, how did she get there?!’ That is what set the ball rolling for me. Even that ‘shameful debut’ as she calls it, it had such a massive effect, because here I am, in a way, because of that.”
Although Lynch is currently one of the biggest stars in the company, a vocal minority of fans have claimed that the former Women’s Champion does not help younger talent despite the fact that she dropped the NXT Women’s Championship to Valkyria and recently lost 2 high-profile matches to Liv Morgan and Rhea Ripley. Recalling her earlier interactions with Lynch, Valkyria stated that Lynch has always been about helping the next generation:
“She came home to the gym that I train in and that was my first time meeting her and I got quite overwhelmed at the time.
“It’s not like we were instantly pals but she made it very clear she was there to help the next generation and was massively on board with being there for whoever was following behind her. “She was very approachable and lovely from the beginning.”
What Does The Future Hold For Becky Lynch?
Although many top stars have signed lucrative, multi-year deals with WWE, Lynch has yet to sign a new contract at the time of writing and is set to become a free agent on June 1st. According to a new report, Becky Lynch is expected to take an extended absence.
