Omos

Omos has kicked off the new year in style by capturing gold in Japan.

Competing at Pro Wrestling NOAH’s The New Year 2025, The Nigerian Giant and Jack Morris defeated Naomichi Marufuji and Takashi Sugiura to become the new GHC Tag Team Champions. Omos pinned Marufuji in his Pro Wrestling NOAH debut to capture the championships and make history by becoming the first contracted WWE star to win gold in the promotion.

The match was Omos’s first since April 2024, which saw The Nigerian Giant enter the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal on the SmackDown before WrestleMania 40. The match was won by Bronson Reed.

The victory brings to an end Marufuji and Sugiura’s reign at 195 days. The duo defeated Jack Morris and Anthony Greene to begin their third reign as champions.

Speaking backstage after the match , the new champions declared that no one would be able to beat them and that they would be the champions forever. The Giant also added that he was a Super Megaweight and that he made good on his promise to become the new Tag Team Champion in his Pro Wrestling NOAH debut.

No further announcements have been made regarding when the new champion will compete again in either promotion.

Later that night, United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura was also in action on the show and defeated Ulka Sasaki in what was his first appearance in Pro Wrestling NOAH since 2023, which saw Nakamura defeat The Great Muta as part of the Hall of Famer’s retirement tour.

Has Omos Been A Tag Team Champion Before?

Prior to his title victory in Pro Wrestling Noah, the Raw star won the Tag Team Championships in 2022. Teaming with AJ Styles , the duo defeated The New Day at WrestleMania 37 in what was also The Giant’s debut match on the main roster. They held the titles until SummerSlam that year, losing to Randy Orton and Matt Riddle.
