On the June 27th episode of NXT, Baron Corbin looked to his past to help relaunch his WWE career.
After being a regular presence on WWE television as “Bum Ass Corbin” and then “Happy Corbin” the star’s main roster career began to falter as his run with JBL came to an end in early 2023.
Heading into the WWE Draft Corbin was on a lengthy losing streak and went undrafted, leaving him a free agent. However, despite the apparent snub, Corbin has reinvented himself in NXT, setting his sights on Carmelo Hayes and the NXT Championship.
This culminated in a match between the pair with the title on the line at NXT Gold Rush. On the show, Corbin got fans before even making it to the ring, bringing back the “lone wolf” persona and ring music that he’d used while with NXT previously.
Despite the switch and pushing Hayes to the limit, it was the champion who retained his title when all was said and done.
Another WWE Main Roster Star Returns To NXT
Main roster stars heading to NXT have become a regular occurrence in recent weeks with Dana Brooke, Mustafa Ali, and even World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins all returning to the developmental brand.
This continued on June 27th as Rhea Ripley was shown backstage sending a warning to Carmelo Hayes after he got involved in Finn Balor’s feud with Rollins.
