Gunther is ready to make history as he wants to head into the WWE Bash in Berlin PLE on August 31st as the reigning World Heavyweight Champion.
In a recent interview with Shakiel Mahjouri for CBS Sports, Gunther expressed his excitement about returning to Germany with the prestigious title.
It’d be the biggest achievement of my career. It’s the world’s heavyweight championship. It’s the biggest prize in this sport. That would be a huge accomplishment but also a big responsibility and challenge.
The opportunity for Gunther to claim the WWE World Heavyweight Championship comes after his impressive victory in the 2024 King of the Ring tournament, where he defeated Randy Orton in the finals. He will face Damian Priest, the current champion, at SummerSlam. Priest has held the title since WrestleMania 40, where he cashed in his Money in the Bank contract on Drew McIntyre.
WWE Bash in Berlin marks a significant milestone as it will be the first PLE hosted in Germany, taking place at the Uber Arena in the capital city. Gunther, who has deep roots in German wrestling, previously competed for wXw from 2007 to 2020, where he established himself as a formidable competitor. During his tenure with the promotion, he became a three-time Unified World Wrestling Champion and a four-time World Tag Team Champion, including a reign alongside future NXT UK rival Ilja Dragunov.
