WWE Star Goes Public With Backstage Frustration

After years of toiling away in NXT, Aliyah arrived on Friday Night SmackDown following the WWE Draft in October 2021.

The star’s main roster run initially failed to catch fire and she was featured on an intermittent basis after a brief feud with Natalya came to an end. However, her fortunes changed after it was announced that a tournament would be taking place to crown new Women’s Tag Team Champions.

In the tournament, Aliyah teamed with Raquel Rodriguez and the pair completed a surprising fairy-tale run to the gold. The former NXT Superstars held the titles for only two weeks before being defeated by Damage CTRL (IYO SKY & Dakota Kai) on September 12th.

The star hasn’t wrestled since after suffering an elevated rib and an AC sprain.

Aliyah Doesn’t Know When She’ll Be Back On WWE TV

However, Aliyah has now revealed that she’s been cleared to return for a number of months and simply isn’t being used. In a series of now-deleted tweets, the star responded to questions from fans who asked where she was. In response to one question asking where she had been since October, she replied with a Britney Spears meme and wrote:

“I don’t know”

Someone else then suggested that she do some backstage shoots even if she’s not wrestling. The star seemingly revealed that she hasn’t been attending SmackDown tapings, replying:

“If only I was backstage”

After admitting that an in-ring return “ain’t her call,” Aliyah replied “sorry to let you down” to questions about appearing at Elimination Chamber and in the upcoming videogame WWE 2K23.

Aliyah originally signed with WWE back in 2015 when she was assigned to NXT. Since splitting from Aliyah, Raquel Rodriguez has continued to be featured heavily on SmackDown and enjoyed a fine run in the recent women’s Royal Rumble match lasting over 20 minutes with three eliminations. It has been announced that Rodriguez will compete inside the Elimination Chamber on February 18th as she attempts to become the number one contender for the Raw Women’s Title.
