A former WWE Superstar has recalled a famous backstage incident featuring Ric Flair and Mick Foley.
For a number of years it was no secret that Ric Flair and Mick Foley simply didn’t get on. The issues appeared to stem from comments made in Foley’s first book ‘Have A Nice Day’ in 1999. In the book, Foley was critical of Flair’s ability as a booker in WCW which had a negative impact on his own career.
The Nature Boy later hit back by calling the Hardcore Legend a “glorified stuntman.”
Tension between the pair came to a head backstage at an episode of Monday Night Raw in December 2004. Foley wanted Flair to autograph a copy of his own book so that it could be auctioned off for charity. During the exchange Flair offered his hand to Foley who refused the gesture.
This snub sent Flair into a rage as he tried to jump across a table in an effort to punch to the WWE Hall of Famer.
One woman who witnessed the incident was Angelina Love who was signed to a WWE developmental deal at the time. During an appearance on the Cafe de Rene podcast with Rene Dupree, the former IMPACT Wrestling star recalled seeing Flair throw himself at his rival.
“Me and Shane Helms and Flair were all sitting together at the table beside each other,” Love said. “Foley comes in with Flair’s book and I guess they had major [heat], hated each other. He [Foley] had his book, and he was just like, ‘Hey, I just bought your book. I’m a big fan of yours. Can you autograph it for me?’ and Flair just stood up and it was just like [screams] right across the table.”
Flair and Foley went on to work with each other in 2006 with the feud ending in a blood-soaked “I Quit” match at SummerSlam 2006. The two men have since settled their differences, with Foley appearing in the crowd for Flair’s last match on July 31st 2022.
