A member of the WWE roster was enjoying the 2006 Royal Rumble up until the point where Rey Mysterio was the last man standing.
Entering the match at number 2, Mysterio looked to win the match, advance to WrestleMania and win the World Championship in honour of Eddie Guerrero, who sadly passed away the year before.
After 62 gruelling minutes, still the 4th longest time anyone has ever spent in the Royal Rumble match, Mysterio last eliminated Randy Orton to emerge the victor in what was a very emotional night for everyone involved. Well, almost everyone.
While appearing on The Babyfaces Podcast, Dominik Mysterio stated that the 2006 Rumble is one of his favourites and was hoping that Orton would win. Unfortunately for “Dirty” Dom, his night was once again ruined by his deadbeat dad:
“Dude, I love the Rumble. It’s one of those things where you really never know who’s going to come out next. So it really is a surprise. But for me, one of my favorite Rumbles is when my deadbeat dad unfortunately won. I thought I was a big Randy Orton guy. So I thought Randy was going to take it. Then deadbeat just comes in and ruins it.
But shout out to Triple H too, pulling him out, being a sore loser, throwing him against the steps. I thought that was pretty cool. I was like, all right, this is a done deal. Randy’s got it in the bag. No. But anyways, I’m excited for the Rumble, man. The Rumble has always been one of my favorite pay-per-views of all time, for sure.”
When Will Rey Mysterio Retire?
With a lengthy list of accolades and a WWE Hall of Famer, many are aware that Mysterio does not have that many years left before calling time on his in-ring career. Speaking in a recent interview, Rey Mysterio opened up about when he will retire.
H/t to Fightful.
