A long-serving member of the WWE roster has given praise to Pat McAfee’s work behind the announce table.
Returning to the company for another full-time run as a commentator at the Royal Rumble, McAfee has called the action alongside Michael Cole on Monday Night Raw while also fulfilling commitments on his talk show. While McAfee’s high-energy style and comments are not to everyone’s taste, The Miz is proud of how well McAfee has adapted to the role.
Appearing on The Rich Eisen Show, the former World Champion credited McAfee with being able to excel in a difficult role while also thriving in the storytelling aspect:
“He’s been amazing for us in WWE. He’s a ball of energy. You know? He usually flies in, because he does his show, and then he’ll fly right in, and he’ll do our show, and it’s very difficult to do. A lot of people are like, ‘Oh, color commentary, it’s not that hard,’ It’s very difficult. It’s a whole different mindset.
The way he’s been able to come into WWE and really just take the bull by the horns and really go out there and do just a fantastic job of storytelling. That’s what we do. We tell stories, and the way he’s able to communicate that to our audience is unmatched. He’s been doing a great job at it.”

Despite the fact that McAfee has competed in multiple matches and has impressed fans with his in-ring skills, the announcement of McAfee and his co-hosts being playable characters in WWE 2K24 generated a considerable amount of backlash, to which one of the co-hosts found humour in and stated that no one wanted to play as “losers” from NXT, referencing rising stars who were notably absent. Taking notice of the comments, Shawn Michaels issued a challenge to Pat McAfee and co.
