Kurt Angle brought down the curtain on his Hall of Fame career at WrestleMania 35.
On the night, Angle lost to Baron Corbin but has since been open about his dislike of how his career ended. The former World Champion has repeatedly stated the he wishes he could have faced John Cena, given the lengthy history between the pair. However, if one former World Champion would have gotten their way, things might have been different.
During an interview with Comedy Store Wrestling, Dolph Ziggler admitted that he would have liked to have been the man to retire the legend. He credited Angle with helping him get into WWE, describing the star as his hero.
“I was so jealous about that.
They didn’t tell us who was going to do it ’til a couple weeks out, and I was like, ‘man, are they finally going to give me a singles match at WrestleMania and I get to be in the ring with my friggin’ hero Kurt Angle? The reason I have a job in wrestling, because I came in at 5’11, 180 lbs is because Kurt Angle was doing so well that they gave me a shot. That’s it. He was so good that I got a tryout.”

Although Kurt Angle hasn’t wrestled since 2019, he still keeps an eye on WWE’s progress, making occasional appearances.
Speaking in a recent episode of his podcast, the WWE Hall of Famer took a look back at WrestleMania 39, and Roman Reigns’ win over Cody Rhodes. The victory ensured the Tribal Chief’s run of dominance and lengthy title reign continued. However, Angle said that Reigns has now been champion for too long, adding that WWE missed a chance to make Cody Rhodes a megastar.
