WWE SmackDown Title Match Sets New Record

New WWE SmackDown Tag Team official

This recent title match on WWE SmackDown has set a new record.

The 25th April episode of SmackDown concluded with the TLC match amongst The Street Profits (Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins), DIY (Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa), and Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin).

After competing for around 23 minutes in one of the heavily acclaimed matches of all time, Ford and Dawkins retained their tag-team championships. In response to fan criticism of the match’s absence from WrestleMania 41, respected wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer provided additional rationale.

The match attracted compliments and positive reviews from fans and critics alike. Cited as one of the best TLC matches of all-time, Meltzer might have even placed this as the best match in SmackDown history.

In this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Meltzer awarded the TLC match a deserving five-star rating. This was the first time a SmackDown match on TV was awarded a 5-star, and WWE’s second televised match to be awarded this feat after Ilja Dragunov versus Gunther.

The TLC match also became the third WWE match to receive this status this year, following the Kevin Owens versus Sami Zayn match and the WrestleMania 41 women’s title triple threat bout.

WWE Legend Stone Cold Steve Austin Open To This Unique Final Match

Speaking to Ariel Helwani on The Ariel Helwani Show,Steve Austin shared his thoughts on his WrestleMania 38 final match against Kevin Owens, before opening up on the chance of wrestling again in this unique match.

“Totally. There is always that part in te back of your mind — there was a match, I think they billed it as an exhibition match between Nick Bockwinkel and Billy Robinson in Japan. Those two guys put on a really nice clinic. It was about 11 to 15 minutes and the Japanese people really appreciated that match. Those guys were badass and could really work. To do something like that would be fun. It’s an exhibition, you’re not trying to go out there and steal the show, just go out there to do it one more time in front of the fans because you love the business as much as you do and it would be very interesting.

You always think in the back of your mind about something like that. Exhibition-style, so you don’t have all that pressure of trying to be who you were in your athletic prime. When you’re out of prime, there is a night and day difference of how you can perform. That’s the way it is for any athlete in any sport. If that was my last endeavor in the ring, I’m totally at peace with it. I ran hard, I had fun. We achieved a lot. It was what it was and I have no regrets. I gave it everything I had,
