WWE SmackDown Tag Team On The Brink Of Split

WWE SmackDown

The relationship between Sheamus and Drew McIntyre, especially on-screen in WWE has been a rollercoaster.

The real-life friends have often brought that relationship into storylines but by the same measure, they really enjoy having a good scrap.

After spending much of the last few years engaging in a series of increasingly violent matches, the pair got back on the same page ahead of Survivor Series in 2022 to battle with The Bloodline. Since then, the former World Champions have teamed together regularly, even challenging The Usos for the Undisputed Tag Team Titles. However, that partnership could be coming to an end.

On the March 3rd episode of SmackDown Drew McIntyre came to the ring, and called out Gunther, challenging him to a match at WrestleMania 39. But it wasn’t the Austrian who answered the call, it was Sheamus, and he wasn’t happy.

Sheamus has been on a quest to win the Intercontinental Title for months given it’s the only WWE championship he’s never held. So he wasted little time in dressing down McIntyre, claiming that his friend had gone behind his back. Just as tensions nearly spiraled out of control, the duo was interrupted by LA Knight who made his own pitch for a match, before they were joined by the New Day and then Karrion Kross.

This sparked a brawl with Kross being the last man standing after McIntyre took everyone else barring Sheamus out with a dive over the top rope.

It has been announced that Drew McIntyre, Sheamus, Kofi Kingston, LA Knight, and Karrion Kross will meet in a Fatal-Five-Way on March 10th to decide who will go on to face Gunther at WrestleMania 39.

What Else Went Down On WWE SmackDown?

Elsewhere on the show, Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns came face-to-face for the first time and traded shots galore including numerous mentions of Dusty Rhodes. As the show progressed Reigns became increasingly annoyed with Jimmy Uso, while there were wins for Solo Sikoa, Rhea Ripley, Shayna Baszler, and Dominik Mysterio.
