WWE SmackDown Star Suffers Legitimate Leg Injury

Drew McIntyre jumps on Kofi Kingston Xavier Woods LA Knight on WWE SmackDown

One of the stars of SmackDown has reportedly suffered a legitimate leg injury.

During the March 5th edition of the blue brand, Drew McIntyre called out the Intercontinental Champion, Gunther. However, instead of the Ring General, McIntyre was confronted by Sheamus, LA Knight, Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods, and Karrion Kross, who all staked their claim to a title match.

Tensions between the stars reached boiling point and Knight threw Woods and Kingston out of the ring, and Sheamus sent Knight after them. McIntyre then flew over the top rope on top of the wrestlers on the floor while Kross attacked Sheamus, throwing him into the turnbuckle.

The segment led to the announcement of a Fatal Five-Way match next week to determine Gunther’s challenger at WrestleMania 39. This is set to feature Kingston, Sheamus, McIntyre, Knight, and Kross. However, one of the competitors might not make it to the match.

Kofi Kingston injured during WWE SmackDown

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer has reported that Kofi Kingston suffered a legitimate leg injury during the episode, leaving his status for the announced Number 1 Contender bout up in the air. Further details about the extent of the injury are currently unknown.

Kingston last held gold when he and Xavier Woods captured the NXT Tag Team Championships from Pretty Deadly at Deadline in December. The New Day pair held the titles for 56 days before losing them to Gallus in a Fatal Four Way bout at Vengeance Day in February.

Since the loss, Woods and Kingston have returned to their winning ways, defeating The Judgment Day’s Damian Priest and Dominik Mysterio. Meanwhile, in singles action, the former WWE Champion beat LA Knight on the February 24th edition of SmackDown.
